Accommodation consists of entrance hall with  living room and dining room both with open fireplaces, and  bedroom on  the ground floor,   kitchen having access to landscaped garden. The kitchen with recessed lighting  has a dishwasher and fridge/freezer integrated, and utility room off with separate washing dryer machine. Upstairs,  ( 4 Bedrooms )  one  bathroom, (two double bedrooms with walk-in wardrobes and en-suite, and another  two double bedroom and fitted wardrobes).

 

Places to Visit

The area has strong musical connections - it was the birthplace of Percy French. The town of Boyle is home to one of Ireland's principal lakeside attractions, Lough Key Forest Park, which offers nature walks, ring forts, cruising, fishing, a bog-garden, an old ice-house and picnic grounds. Herds of deer wander freely through the park. ( 10 km)

Other attractions in include Drumanone Dolmen (one of the largest in Ireland) and Boyle Abbey. It's also worth exploring the ruins of Roscommon Castle.

Plus don't miss the Agrina Mining Experience (coalmine closed in 1990 - but you can still go down the pit), ( 22Km)

 the famine museum at Strokestown Park House, which gives a unique insight into the lives of the Irish people who battled against 'the famine'. (8Km)

         Galway City 75 km,  Sligo Airport 54km,   Knock Airport 70km,  Roscommon 25km   and Carrick on Shannon 13km.

Booking Deposit

Parking for two cars

The property can be rented on a weekly basis, usually from Sat – Sat but alternative arrangements can be made.  Full payment most be made on arrival.   Arrival no later than 2 p.m. and house must be vacated by 12 noon to facilitate next arrivals on the day of departure.

An immediate non-refundable booking deposit of 150 euros of the payment is required not less than 6 weeks before arrival.

Electricity

The charge for electricity is based on a meter reading on arrival

Towels

Towels are available on request.

Cots & Highchairs

Cots and Highchairs must be pre-ordered.

Security Deposit

A refundable security deposit of 200 euros must be paid to the manager on arrival , it will be refunded once the supervisor is satisfied that the terms  and conditions are respected  and  the house is  left in a clean & tidy condition with waste stored in suitable plastic bags.  Failure to leave the accommodation  in a fit state will mean the loss of part  or all of security deposit. 

Rental March to June  300 Euro per week or  400  for two weeks

Elphin Windmill

tour-elphin.jpg (6588 bytes)1km north west of the town and well worth a visit is the recently restored 18th Century Windmill - perfectly located to harness the winds sweeping over the plains of Boyle. Unusual features are a thatched revolving roof and sails that are turned into the wind using cartwheels on a circular track. Originally used for grinding corn by the local landlord and now back in full working order, this is the only working windmill in the West of Ireland.  The mill was officially opened by Hollywood film star Gabriel Byrne (whose mother hails from the parish of Elphin) in June 1996. Strokestown is located in the Irish Midlands, 95 miles west of Dublin (on the N5 road corridor) 8 km south of Elphin

WHERE TO FISH  

There are 14 lakes described on this guide collectively known as the Strokestown Lakes. Many of these lakes have very good access and facilities provided by the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board which includes fishing stands, disabled angling facilities, access roads and car parks etc. Some offer excellent fishing while others less known but  worth exploring and experimenting.
